Dead Wings
So much for my prediction a few days ago. I guess there won't be a double parade down Woodward this summer. The Wings choked away another season with a disastrous first round playoff series.
Up 2-0 going into the 3rd period in a huge game the Wings disappeared. They gave up 4 goals and only scored 1. This was a team that was 38-0-3 (or something like that) in the regular season when entering the 3rd period with a lead.
Edmonton did get a goal on a play that should have been whistled dead because the puck was hit with a high stick, but that's no excuse for how the game ended. Edmonton entered the zone with a little over a minute to go, 1 on 4, and the wings couldn't clear the puck out of the zone, and apparently they forgot how to play Defense and the Oilers scored an easy goal to win the game.
Go ahead Ali, your team beat mine. Gimme your best shot

Oh, I weep for you. I feel your pain. I really do. I live in Denver. Take those above statements whatever way you wish. :)
I was listening to 1270 before the game started, and they made an interesting comment for the off season, if the Wings lose. They were discussing possibilities if they were Ken Holland. Trading for Roberto Luongo was mentioned. They said that in order to get Luongo, they're looking at probably trading, either, Datsyuk for him or guys like Lang and Hudler. If it was for Pavel, I wouldn't have a problem with that. The Wings need a strong goalie, and Pavel hasn't scored in 27 playoff games. As I've said before, it doesn't matter how many highlight reel goals he can score, if he can't step it up in the playoffs then it doesn't really matter, and we need to get some-one who can. I think Hollan should seriously consider it. I also think Lang and hudler might be worth it also, but I think that if Ken can get Luongo for just Datsyuk, I think he should go for it. What do you think?

Amishav - Even though the Wings and Avs don't hate each other as they did in years past, I don't imagine you're to broken up over their choke job.
OC - They need to do something about their goaltending issues. Legace killed them in the series. I don't know about Luongo though, he has no post season experience. And I don't think the Wings should get rid of Pavel just yet. He started the series injured, and the past few games he was skating well, he had a real pretty assist on a zetterberg goal.
I don't know iftere are any marquee goalies that will be free agents. My guessis teh wings will stay pat, and either hope that Legace will improve now that he has that playoff experience, or Osgood will get a real shot to play in the playoffs.
Shu, actually there are some marquee goalies available this summer. Guys like Luongo, Taskala, Cujo, and Gerber are just to name a few. Giguerre might also be available. Also expect to see Turco's name thrown around. It's ironic for San Jose, because they chose to give Nabakov the big contract, and now it's Tas

It's pretty obvious that San Jose won't be able to keep both goalies with their current pay roll.
I don't buy the Pavel injured excuse. I'll give the first couple of games back, but he just didn't step it up, and he has no playoff consistency to show. 1 pretty assist does not a playoff performer make. In the past 3 1/2 seasons, Datsyuk has completely choked in the playoffs. Everyone thought that with the new rules, he would be able to shine. Now we see that he just doesn't seem to be able to go to the next level in time for the playoffs. 26 playoff games without a goal. Are you going to tell me that he was injured for each one? I say that if the Wings get an offer for a Luongo or a Giguerre, guys who are clutch, in exchange for Datsyuk, the Wings should take it. Manny is gone. That's a fact. The question will be whether the Wings see this as a real rebuilding stage, opting to start Ozzie with Howard as back-up to ease him in. Or, they go even further and start putting in their prospects and start Howard. If they believe they can still compete, they have to go out and get a tough veteran goalie. Luongo may not be playoff tested, but he's got the stuff to be clutch.
